THE RIDER STUDY: Real Input Driving Everyday Routes

At LADOT, we always want to make sure our services work for you. That’s why we’re rolling out a citywide “RIDER Study” to explore how our transit network – including DASH neighborhood bus service, Commuter Express regional routes, LAnow microtransit, and Cityride Dial-a-Ride services for seniors and persons with disabilities – can better meet riders’ needs.

Share Your Feedback

We want to hear from you! Your feedback will help LADOT understand how the DASH bus and LAnow microtransit could work better for everyone. Please take the survey below by Sunday, March 15, 2026, and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a chance to receive a $50 VISA gift card! Limit one entry per person.

What’s This All About?

The RIDER Study is taking a fresh look at how people travel in a post-pandemic world. As travel behavior changes, operating costs rise, and communities evolve, LADOT’s goal is to evaluate how well our current transit services meet community needs and to provide clear recommendations for improving reliability, efficiency, and equity across the system. Recommendations are designed to optimize routes to boost ridership, enhance on-time performance, align services with regional transit, and ensure LADOT is prepared for major upcoming events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 2027 Super Bowl, and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The RIDER Study builds on LADOT’s prior Transit Services Analysis 2018, which laid out a plan to refine and optimize LADOT transit services across the city. From this process, several service improvements and new routes were recommended. While some significant portions of the plan have been successfully implemented, other aspects of the plan were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, changing ridership trends, and increasing operational and capital costs.

The RIDER Study is the next step, reassessing service based on today’s realities and available resources.

This study is evaluating current services, ridership patterns, demographics, land use changes, equity impacts, financial constraints, and safety considerations, particularly for women, transgender persons, and other gender non-conforming persons.
